Vooruitgang in het tijdelijke museum op de Citadel van Diest

In de voorbije weken is er geen moment stilgezeten om het “tijdelijke” Pegasus Museum op de Citadel van Diest verder af te werken. Met vastberadenheid en toewijding zetten onze vrijwilligers, vaak in hun vrije tijd, hun schouders onder dit cruciale project om het tot een succesvol einde te brengen.

Tegelijkertijd wordt het oude museum stelselmatig ontmanteld, terwijl de werkzaamheden in het nieuwe tijdelijke museum zonder onderbreking doorgaan. Het gaat hierbij niet enkel om de tentoonstellingsruimtes, maar ook om de voertuigenloods en het magazijn. Elk object wordt zorgvuldig geïnventariseerd, waarna het veilig en geordend wordt opgeslagen.

Bij dit complexe werk hebben wij versterking ontvangen van enkele paracommando’s van het Trainingscentrum voor Parachutisten, specifiek van de Ballonsectie. Ook de steun van de ANPCV Leuven was van onschatbare waarde, waar enkele leden hun handen uit de mouwen staken.

Bijgevoegd vindt u beelden van het ontmantelen van de gang met de kast KOREA, de sprong met de C-130 en het leegmaken en ontmantelen van de overige tentoonstellingskasten. Daarnaast tonen we ook enkele foto’s van de nieuwe zalen en de tussenmuur van de toekomstige vergaderzaal “Café René”.

Er ligt nog enkele weken werk voor ons, maar we hopen het nieuwe – tijdelijke – museum snel te kunnen openen.

Au cours des dernières semaines, nous n'avons pas ménagé nos efforts pour achever la construction du musée temporaire Pegasus à la Citadelle de Diest. Nos bénévoles consacrent une grande partie de leur temps libre à ce projet avec détermination et rigueur, afin de le mener à bien.

Parallèlement, l'ancien musée est progressivement démantelé, tandis que les travaux dans le nouveau musée temporaire se poursuivent sans relâche. Cela concerne non seulement les espaces d'exposition, mais aussi le hangar à véhicules et l'entrepôt. Chaque objet est minutieusement inventorié, puis stocké de manière sécurisée et ordonnée.

Ce travail de grande envergure a bénéficié du soutien de quelques parachutistes du Centre de formation des parachutistes, en particulier des spécialistes de la section Ballon. L’ANPCV Leuven a également apporté une aide précieuse, avec des membres qui se sont mobilisés sur le terrain.

Vous trouverez ci-joint des photos du démantèlement du couloir avec l'armoire KOREA, du saut en C-130, ainsi que de l'évacuation et du démontage des autres armoires d'exposition. Nous vous montrons également quelques images des nouvelles salles et du nouveau mur séparatif de la future salle de réunion « Café René ».

Il nous reste encore quelques semaines de travail, mais nous espérons pouvoir ouvrir le nouveau musée – même s’il est temporaire – dans les plus brefs délais.

In recent weeks, we have been working relentlessly to complete the “temporary” Pegasus Museum at the Citadel of Diest. Our volunteers are dedicating a significant portion of their free time to this vital project, driven by determination and discipline, to ensure its successful completion.

Meanwhile, the old museum is being methodically dismantled, while work on the new temporary museum continues without interruption. This involves not only the exhibition halls but also the vehicle shed and the warehouse. Every item is meticulously inventoried and then stored safely and systematically.

Additional support has been provided by a group of paratroopers from the Parachute Training Centre, specifically from the Balloon Section. The ANPCV Leuven has also lent invaluable assistance, with several members on-site to help out.

Attached, you will find photos of the dismantling of the corridor with the KOREA cabinet, the jump with the C-130, and the emptying and dismantling of the other display cabinets. We also share images of the new rooms and the new partition wall for the future meeting room “Café René”.

We still have a few weeks of work ahead, but we hope to open the new – albeit temporary – museum as soon as possible.
